R&J Entry #3 - Why do R&J's family's hate each other?

The two families were once war partners. Before the feud started they were part of the same family the moved from Northern Europe to the Italian peninsula. This was back when the Franks, the Huns and the Goths were still active clans. They conquered part of Italy and were very prosperous for generations. Then one day, a rich scheming merchant discovered that the two families had had a minor dispute over a tiny plot of land. All the man wanted was more money, so he created a plan. They were still friendly but both  of the different families were suspicious. The merchant promised the Montague family he had some information about the Capulet family. The merchant did not actually have any real information so just made up a few juicy lies. These lies included one about how the Capulets were going to ambush the Montague family's oldest son on his way to another part of their plentiful land. The Montague's decided enough was enough and strait on attacked the Capulets at their castle. The Capulets were completely surprised and suffered many casualties. Afterwards they declared the Montagues their eternal enemies. Thus the feud began.

R&J Entry #2

4 Metaphors: Extended metaphor: When Romeo and Juliet talk and they discuss her beging a shrine and him being a pilgrim. When Benvolio and Romeo talk about Cupids Arrow and how Rosaline will remain chaste.

Direct Metaphor: Benvolio comparing Rosaline to a crown when put next to other ladies. When Lord Capulet is talking to Paris he compares the young women who are going to be at the ball to fresh flowers.

Dear Abby,
The most terribly wonderful event has taken place! The swift arrow of cupid has found a bulls eye within my mortal heart. Before I could dodge, it struck me. Then to my horror I discovered my Love's name. "Romero" , my enemy by birth! Our families would rather die than allow us to be married! I have tried coaxing my parents that it might not be a bad idea for me to choose who I marry, but they are very traditional and just scoff. They think there is another, better guy, one they picked out, "Pedro", that they are pushing me to marry. I do not want to hurt my parents or get my love in trouble. Indeed, it is a perilous situation, please help me Abby. --Clueless in Verona

R&J J #1 - True Love

Love at first sight is a hoax. People wish to believe that they aren't alone in the world because they don't want to face a scary truth. So they go on and on about how they "just know". It is ridiculous because you can't know who anyone is inside by just looking at them. Plus they just want an easy way through all of the hard work others go through trying to find love. These people who also go through life looking for love are also imbeciles. They could be happy or do something productive with their lives while not in love. Occasionally people who search desperately for love do accomplish good things and that is fine. If you can go through a normal, productive life still looking for love, then go ahead, you are not holding anyone else back in their life.

F.451 Entry 10 pgs150-160

Summarize: Granger explains how the men around him are books. They have memorized entire books on a variety of subjects. They aim to keep this knowledge un their own minds because paper & film is too easily destroyed or found. He also cautions Montag on the dangers of feelings of individual supiority, saying that if you forget you are just one part of a bigger picture, it can lead to death by hoping to attempt some sort of recruitment. He believes that by talking to only select people the knowledge will not be diluted and only people who come to their 'secret society' by themselves with free will, will truly learn or be able to change anything. Granger hopes that one day they will be able to permanently write down the knowledge in thier heads, until then, it is best to keep it a secret. Granger then moves onto talking about how the world is shaped by people. Shaped meaning changed somehow, altered, for better or for worse. This ties in with his hope that books will one day be important by thier actions in memorizing them. Planes fly overhead and they bomb the city from which Montag just came. He thinks about his wife, Clarrise, and Faber, hoping all are not dead. He focuses in on his wife because she was the only one still in the city. He then decides that someday he will come back to the ruins of this city and visit. He walks away towards the largely unkown.

Discuss: This first part of this whole section is the author taling about his views on subjects like death and knowledge. Not first hand, but through Grnager. Talking about how paper and video are unreliable might be trying to tell the readers to always look for yourself because the information just being on a piece of paper doesn't make it accurate. Then Montag and Granger discuss the way the world is shaped. How Granger believes it to be shaped is saying that just because we don't know it, but we change something else, someone else might come upon that change and make a bigger change. So we are all effecting each other in sometime oblvious sometimes not, ways. The last part of the conclusion is just wrapping the story up, with Montag coming to a sort of peace about Mildred.

Literary Elements:
Allusions - All of the author's names mentioned thoughout the pages we read.
The coat of a thousand colors, allusion to the Christian bible.
The paragraph two before last that talks about a tree, is referencing to the bible.
Irony - The sane people, all warm and cozy inside their perfect houses & lives, ended up dying, while hobos in a wild forest are still alive and well.
They also drove Montag out of the city to protect themselves, while it was really protecting Montag from being blown to bits.
Symbols - The forest was a symbol for the unknown and how the men were venturing into it.
